I am a Denver-based writer, travel lover, and author of The Drive North: A Swing Down Memory Lane. I have several other pieces, including fiction, in the works.
It took twelve years, but I finally saw my first bear in the wild in Colorado while on a drive through Rocky Mountain National Park.

Jason, this picture chills me to the bone. After living in SE Alaska for a year and returning at least twice a year (from Arizona) for the past 18 years, I have never yet seen a bear of any kind in the wild but am wildly afraid of them! Here in AZ we have black bears (purportedly) up in the hills, but I have never seen one of those either. Where were you when you saw this brown bear?
It was on the road to Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park.
