The Family Friendly Slopes of St. Johann, Austria

St Johann is an attractive market town in the region of Tirol in western Austria. One thing that makes the town so popular is its location in the valley basin between the Wilder Kaiser and Kitzbüheler Horn mountains, which provide acres of terrain and as many as 23 pistes packed with snow.
The landscape is well-suited for beginner and intermediate skiers, although the black Penzing descent down to Oberndorf is great for more advanced skiers. There is a terrain park, half pipe and unique varied terrain for snowboarders, and 172 miles of cross-country ski trails.
Particularly attractive for off-peak travellers is the fact that the majority of pistes are covered by artificial snowmaking. St Johann is a great place to learn to ski as the nursery slopes can be found at the bottom of the lifts (there is mixture of chair lifts and surface lifts), and there are professional ski instructors who are trained to assist beginners.
Intermediates can work on their skills on the tree-lined slopes of Harschbichl, or hop on a bus to the nearby slopes in Steinplatte or Fieberbrunn.
Stop in at one of many charming cafés and bars in the town centre to wind down after a busy day on the slopes. Although St Johann is popular for ski holidays– attracting skiers of all levels – its semi-pedestrianized centre, including a baroque church and friendly atmosphere, appeals to people of all ages as well.Visitors can fly to Salzburg from major airports in the UK, transferring to St Johann in under 2 hours. Accommodation is located conveniently near the pistes so that skiers can get their skis and hit the slopes to make the most of the snow.
Officially part of the Schneewinkl Ski Area, St Johann provides direct access to numerous downhill runs that are suitable to many levels of skiers, snowboarders and cross-country skiers, while the resort is able to augment its significant load of natural snow. Have a look for affordable flights to this charming resort town in Austria and enjoy family friendly, healthy ski holidays in Europe.
